High School H.I.V Case Causing Concern

Lauren Leamanczyk

SOUTH MILWAUKEE – Parents in South Milwaukee are worried after learning about a teen who may have spread the H.I.V to other high school students.

According to a search warrant filed by South Milwaukee Police, two teenage girls reported having unprotected intimate contact with the 18-year-old man. Later, his aunt told the girls, her nephew was H.I.V positive. The warrant seeks access to the teen’s medical records.

Dawn Piastowski’s daughter came home from school and told her about the risk after hearing rumors. Piastowski says she hasn’t been able to get any clear answers from the district.

She believes her daughter is safe.

“She didn’t associate with any of them. I’m glad she didn’t, but that doesn’t deter the fear,” Plastowski said.

Still, Piastowski worries that other students may have been at risk through open cuts or sores.

“I know how the disease can be spread and how it can’t, but don’t hide this from children,” Plastowski said.

South Milwaukee High School declined to comment citing student privacy concerns.

Other parents say this is a reminder to talk to their kids about the dangers of intercourse, H.I.V and A.I.D’S.

“There’s a lot of kids not participating in intercourse and there’s kids using safe intercourse procedures,” said Maurice Lashley, “but then you have the few who stray away and that’s the danger to our community.”

The teen has not been charged with any crime. Police are investigating whether his alleged actions rose to the level of recklessly endangering safety.

While you are reading this someone, somewhere in the world, is being infected with an s.t.d., most times without even knowing it.

Most people believe that you can’t get an s.t.d if you don’t have intercourse, but i have news for you…

ORAL INTERCOURSE is INTERCOURSE…

and it gets people infected every single day..

with such diseases as:

The following are some of the more common S.T.Ds in the United States.

Chlamydia. Chlamydial diseases are caused by microscopic organisms that belong to the family chlamydia (pronounced kluh-MID-ee-uh). Two common chlamydial infections are nongonococcal (not gonorrhea) urethritis (NGU) and nonspecific urethritis (NSU). Urethritis (pronounced YOOR-ih-THRY-tiss) means an inflammation of the urethra.

Gonorrhea. Gonorrhea (pronounced gahn-uh-REE-uh) is caused by a microorganism called Neisseria gonorrhoea (pronounced ny-SEER-ee-uh gahn-UH-ree-uh). It is easily cured when treated properly.

Genital warts. Genital warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It is the single most important risk factor for cervical cancer in women (see cancer entry).

Syphilis. Syphilis (SIF-uh-liss) is caused by a microorganism called Treponema pallidum (pronounced trep-uh-NEE-muh PAL-ee-um). Like most STDs, syphilis can be cured if treated promptly and correctly. However, when left untreated, it can cause serious damage to the body and even death.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. HIV is the virus responsible for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS (see AIDS entry). No cure is presently available for HIV infection. However, major steps have been made in finding ways to control the disease.

Nobody wants to talk about it, but everbody wants to do it..

In this day in age, so many teens have unprotected intercourse while not thinking about the consequences that may follow behind. Its like unprotected intercourse, or even intercourse in general is cool, but in actuality half of the teens who engage in having intercourse aren’t ready, and they are pressured into doing it.

But, is it really that hard to say no??

I think not. I think all teens, or whoever you may be need to stand up and say no. We as a group, meaning teens, need to take more pride in our health and who we are and change the way of the world, because to many teens are being infected and std’s are at an all time high and the numbers are steadily increasing.

40% of the teenage girls reported having intercourse. 26% percent had intercourse transmitted infections; 18% had HPV. Chlamydia, the second most common infection, was present in 4% of the teens. The researchers also included herpes simplex virus, and trichomoniasis in their analysis.

As you can see these numbers are astronomical for teenagers, and it needs to decrease..

so lets make a change..

STAND UP AND SAY NO!!!!
